Open to Export is an online resource created by the Institute of Export & International Trade, the Government’s Department for International Trade, the Federation of Small Businesses, and Yell. It is a community-driven service for small- and medium-sized businesses looking for help and support in exporting from the UK, and provides information and advice on exporting products and services, in the form of articles, events and opportunities. This content is produced and contributed by the community of users and provides an interactive Q&A area, where users may ask any export-related question they have. Institute of Export & International Trade
The IoE was established to enhance the export performance of the UK by setting and raising professional standards in international trade management and export practice. The activities of the Institute fall in to three main areas:
- Education and training
- Specialised business information and events
- Membership representation
The Institute currently has a membership of 2750 who enjoy a range of benefits, including an entitlement to use designatory letters to enable recognition of an individual member’s professional standing. Members receive a range of benefits, plus year-long access to an exclusive technical help-line for detailed assistance and a regular newsletter. The Institute also represents the collective interests of its members to the Government and media and disseminates information to members on key export issues and opportunities. Typical individual membership costs between £75 and £150 per annum, depending on membership grade.
British Exporters
This is a website from the company, UK Exporters Ltd, which publishes (online and on CD-Rom) a database of British products and services for export markets. Basic entries for British companies are free.
The Economist Intelligence Unit
The EIU provides individual country reports offering in-depth economic, political and business analysis and short-term market outlooks.
World Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Chamber of Commerce & Industry manages the World Chambers Network, an internet-based directory providing contact details of the chambers of commerce in world markets. Local Chambers can be very useful sources of potential business partners, distributors and agents.
In addition, the CCI provides a broad spectrum of support services to active or new exporters across a wide range of industries, such as detailed market research advice, information on marketing events and opportunities, etc.
Incoterms®Rules – International Chamber of Commerce
Incoterms (International Commercial Terms) Rules are standard trade definitions most commonly used in international sales contracts. Devised and published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), they are at the heart of world trade. Among the best known Incoterms are EXW (Ex Works), FOB (Free on Board), CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight), DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid), and CPT (Carriage Paid To). The ICC publishes a directory of the latest edition of these rules - Incoterms 2020.
The ICC also has a digital library of Incoterms and Commercial Contracts publications.
