Barbour ABI

According to BuildingSpecifier.com, the latest Barbour ABI Economic & Construction Market Review has revealed that the value of construction projects in the UK has rocketed by 67.1% in the last year. New project contracts awarded in December 2013 were estimated to total some £6bn, compared to £3.6bn for December 2012.

French Construction Market – Overview

Construct UK has published its latest Export Market Overview, this time for France.   Official EU statistics agency, Eurostat, states that the French construction industry is one of the largest of 27 EU member countries, accounting for an estimated 16.2% of the total construction market (compared to 15.3% for the UK). According to the latest report from Euroconstruct (www.euroconstruct.org), French construction output was worth an estimated €206.5 billion in 2012. At the recent CIMCIG seminar 'Communicating With Construction Industry Decision Makers, Chris Ashworth presented findings from the latest (third) release of the Construction Media Index which revealed that Construction News is now the most popular journal in the UK construction market. Commercial and Industrial Doors and Shutters Market Report

According to the latest report from AMA, the UK Commercial and Industrial Doors and Shutters Market was worth approximately £400 million in 2012, some 15% below the 2008 peak. However the report predicts that the market will begin to recover from 2014 onwards with growth rates of 3-4% as the economy and construction work recovers. New Construction Exhibition & Conference

The inaugural 'Talk Construction' event will take place on November 25th and 26th at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London. Organised by the Chartered Institute of Building and the UK Contractors Group, the event has been created to reflect the increasing importance of Construction Managers in the design and construction process.

The CIOB has over 38,000 members and the UK Contractors Group represents the 30 largest contracting firms - accounting for over 30% of construction output. The event promises to attract leading Construction Managers who specify and procure building products and materials.

UK Construction PMI at 13 Month High in June

The latest PMI report from research firm Markit and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) reveals that the index rose to a seasonally adjusted 51.0 in June from a reading of 50.8 in May.   Higher output levels were driven by a solid rate of new order growth in the month and this contributed to rising employment levels in the construction sector during the latest survey period.

The Port of Dover have announced that they have signed a pre-construction agreement with Graham Construction for the redevelopment of the Western Docks. According to the press release "....a successful outcome from the Pre-Construction Agreement should lead to an award of the principal construction contract with a view to commencing on site in early 2016, and opening the Western Docks cargo terminal in 2017".

This follows on from the news  last month that Leslie Jones Architecture had been appointed....
